1995 Men's Soccer Team and Former Midfielder Ivan Guarin Inducted in NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame
The NJCAA has announced two honorees to be inducted into the NJCAA Men's Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The honorees include the 1995 Herkimer College men's soccer team and Ivan Guarin from Herkimer College.
Herkimer College (NY) 1995 Men's Soccer Team
The 1995 Herkimer County Community College men's soccer team finished 25-0-0 on the season to win their second consecutive NJCAA National Championship title and 50th consecutive win. During the championship game, Herkimer goalie Mark Williams had 12 saves and tournament MVP David Seipp had a goal and assist to lead the Generals to a 4-3 win over Nassau Community College.
The 1995 men's soccer team was led by head coach Perry Nizzi who was also head coach of the 25-0-0 1994 team and coached at Herkimer from 1981-1998. Nizzi led the Generals to three NJCAA Division III Championships and was inducted into the NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006.
The 1995 team ended the season with a NJCAA National Championship, NJCAA Region 3 Championship, and the Mountain Valley Conference Championship title. They also had two members, David Seipp and Brian Kennedy, honored as All-Americans and Brian Kennedy and Nate Horten named to the All-Tournament team.
Ivan Guarin | Student-Athlete | Herkimer College (NY)
Ivan Guarin attended Herkimer County Community College where he played for the men's soccer team. During his time at Herkimer, he was a two-year standout for the Generals, playing from 2006-07. In his freshman season, he was named to the All-Tournament team.
In his sophomore season, Guarin tallied 10 goals and 17 assists for the 2007 Herkimer team that finished with a 16-2-2 record. During this season, Guarin was a first-team All-American and was named the Region 3 Male Athlete of the Year. Guarin holds the fourth-most career assists since the 2000-01 season with 31.
