Four Herkimer Cross Country Runners Earn All-Region Honors

HERKIMER, NY –Amelia Bowman-McCoy, Alexis Heath, Avion Harris and Michael Green each earned All-Region honors at the 2023 Region III Championships held at Finger Lakes Community College last week.

Bowman-McCoy, a sophomore from Oneida, NY, won the Mountain Valley Conference Individual Championship just two weeks prior. She won the Region 3 Individual Championship with a time of 21:24.8 and an average pace of 6:54, winning the race by 40 seconds. Heath, a sophomore from Inlet, NY, returned from injury to place fourth at the Region III Championship with a time of 23:04.2 and an average pace of 7:26.

On the male side, sophomore Avion Harris, Niagara Falls, NY, finished in second place with a time of 27:47.3 and an average pace of 5:36. Harris has finished in the top-10 of all seven races this season, including second place finishes of each of his last three races. Michael Green, a freshman from St. Johnsville, NY, finished with a career-best ninth place finish with a time of 30:24.0 and an average pace of 6:07.

"We seem to be peaking at the right time of year," said men's and women's cross country head coach John Campagna. "These four individuals ran extremely well and had their best performances of the season and I am extremely proud of them." 

The men's and women's team both qualified for the National Championships held from Nov. 8-10 in Huntsville, AL.
