Women's Basketball Open Season with 24-Point Win Over Cayuga

CAYUGA, NY – Herkimer Women's Basketball earned its first win of the season in a 63-39 rout over Cayuga on Saturday.
The Generals trailed 13-15 after the first quarter, but bounced back, outsourcing the Spartans 19-4 in the second quarter and took a 32-19 lead heading into halftime.
Herkimer (1-0) never looked back, leading by as many as 20 in the third quarter, and eventually winning the contest by 24.
Sophomore forward Lydia Reimer (Newport, NY) started off the season strong with a game-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Sophomore forward Layla Ford added 13 points on a perfect shooting performance (5-of-5).
Freshman guard Kerisa Van Olst (Dolgeville, NY) added 11 points in her first career start.
Herkimer will take on SUNY Adirondack in its home-opener this Thursday at 5:00 PM.
