Herkimer Earns Tough Win on Road vs D2 Monroe

Herkimer went on the road on Wednesday night and came away with a hard fought 87-77 victory over Division 2 Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY.  The win moves Herkimer to 10-9 overall, and provides a great game to build on heading into the last week of the season.

The game, which was rescheduled from February 3 due to weather, was the highest scoring game of the season, as Herkimer shot 49.3% from the floor, including 55% in the second half.  Herkimer clinged to a 21-20 advantage after the first 10 minutes, but trailed at the half 38-35 as Monroe hit three consecutive three pointers to take the lead.  The Generals came out in the second half attacking the rim, and put 30 points up in the 3rd quarter, including a 3 pointer at the buzzer by Sophomore Guard Ajla Sejdic, who finished with 13 points, all in the 2nd half.

The Generals used a balance attack with 6 different players scoring in double digits, led by Freshman guard Hinano Imamura  who finished with 19 points.  Sophomore Kapri Bradshaw, who left the game with 7 minutes remaining due to an ankle injury, ended with 17 points.  Sophomore Jenna Faulkner had one of her most complete games of the season as she tallied 14 points and 18 rebounds.

"Tonight was a big night for us.  To go on the road and face a Monroe team that is very athletic and much better than their record shows, based on the players they added in the 2nd semester, and come away with a win was very satisfying.  Tonight was truly a team win.  We adjusted based on the matchups, everyone accepted their role within the game, and it resulted in a great win.  Hopefully something we can build off," Head Coach Matt Hazzard offered.

Herkimer returns back to its home floor for a back to back games as they host Finger Lakes on Friday at 3 p.m. and will honor four sophomores on Saturday at 1 pm as they host Tompkins Cortland.
