Herkimer Celebrates Women in Sports Day with a Win

Wednesday, February 1 marked National Women and Girls in Sports Day, and Herkimer brought home a big Region 3 Mountain Valley Conference win over Adirondack.  With the 85-28 win, Herkimer moved its record to 9-9 and more importantly 7-5 in Region 3 play.

Facing an undermanned Adirondack team, Herkimer came out sluggish on defense, but turned it up in the second quarter to give them a 37-20 lead heading into half-time.  Sophomore Kapri Bradshaw led the team in scoring with 18 points, and Freshman Hinano Imamura added 15, connecting on five 3-pointers for the second consecutive game.  Overall, Herkimer would go an impressive 13-22 from behind the arc.

Sophomore guard Ajla Sejdic would stuff the stat sheet again scoring 13 points and dishing out 7 assists, while Freshman forward Layla Ford went for 12 points, and Sophomore forward Jenna Faulkner grabbed 13 rebs to go with her 7 points.

"We knew as we turned into February that our schedule was not as strong but the games meant just as much.  For us, we often talk about how its about us and our effort.  After the 1st quarter, when Adirondack connected for 3 three-pointers, the girls dug in on defense and turned up the energy.  These wins help us build some momentum as we come to the final stretch of the regular season schedule."  said Coach Matt Hazzard following the win.

Herkimer returns to region play for back to back games on Friday, February 10 versus Finger Lakes and Saturday, February 11 versus Tompkins Cortland.
