Generals Extend Win Streak to Three in Win Over Hudson Valley

The Herkimer Women's Basketball team returned to the court on Thursday afternoon, defeating Hudson Valley 69-62 in a Mountain Valley Conference Region III matchup.  The Generals built an 18-4 lead after the first quarter and carried a 40-19 lead into halftime, behind the play of the posts, freshman Lydia Reimer (Newport, NY) and sophomore Jenna Faulkner (Unadilla, NY)

Herkimer controlled the action, taking advantage of a slow start and turnovers from the opposition. Reimer would finish with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 15 rebounds. Both were career highs for Reimer and the first time she scored more than 20 points in a college game.

Faulkner also tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

"So far this year, we have been undersized at every position, but we felt this matchup with our speed and athleticism was good for us." head coach Matt Hazzard said. Lydia and Jenna controlled the paint, and match that with a team total of 18 assists, it showed us another side of our offense. We have been guard-heavy in most of our games."

In the second half, Hudson Valley came storming back, as Herkimer turned the ball over and had a tough time with Hudson Valley's pressure.  The Generals' lead was trimmed to four points with 50 seconds left, but Herkimer closed the door for the win. Sophomore Kapri Bradshaw (Uniondale, NY) finished with 16 points, and backcourt partner sophomore Ajla Sejdic (Utica, NY) finished with 15 points. Freshman Hinano Imamura (Japan) dished out a season-high eight assists.

"Due to sickness, injuries, and academics, we only suited up six girls, so it was a real balancing act, but the team followed the gameplan, and we held on," Hazzard added. "I learned early on and it was the message to the girls after the game, any win on the road is a good win.  We will take it against a Hudson Valley team that will be tough in the coming weeks."

Herkimer returns to the court on Friday at 3 p.m. to take on No. 20 ranked Division II foe Niagara County Community College in the first game of the Philly Classic.
