Herkimer Baseball Sweeps Cayuga on Go-Ahead Mikey Rodriguez Home Run

Herkimer College emerged victorious with a score of 8-2 in the first matchup of the doubleheader between Herkimer College and Cayuga Community College on April 7, 2024.

Herkimer College displayed a strong offensive performance, scoring eight runs on 11 hits while Cayuga Community College managed only two runs on three hits. Sophomore Ethan Glossa had a standout game with two RBI, while sophomore Mikey Rodriguez and freshman Michael Schleider also contributed with key hits.

Freshman pitcher Tsubasa Tomii put on a solid performance, allowing only two runs on three hits over seven innings to earn the win. Tomii registered his second consecutive complete game in the win.

 In the second game of the doubleheader between Herkimer College and Cayuga Community College, Herkimer emerged victorious with a 6-4 win in 11 innings. Herkimer scored runs in the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead. However, Cayuga Community College fought back, scoring two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to tie the game and force extra innings.

In the top of the 11th inning, Herkimer College managed to push across two runs to take a 6-4 lead on a Mikey Rodriguez go-ahead home run. Cayuga Community College was unable to respond in the bottom half of the inning, giving Herkimer College the hard-fought victory.

Herkimer College's sophomore Donovan Rhoden had a standout performance at the plate, hitting three doubles and driving in a run. Freshman pitcher Sotaro Ishida also had a strong outing, earning the win after pitching seven innings and allowing just two runs.
