Butler Selected by Colorado Rockies in the MLB Draft

HERKIMER, NY -- Herkimer College pitcher Troy Butler was selected in the 20th round of the MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday evening.

Butler, a Fort Plain High School graduate, is the sixth player drafted in the history of the Herkimer College baseball program. He transferred from Binghamton University before coming to Herkimer. In his lone season with the Generals, he was dominant on the mound going 6-2 with a team-best 16.32 K/9.

Butler is the first draft selection under first-year head coach Lane Potter, who played for the Generals from 2009-10.

"Troy has a big time arm and a ton of upside to progress in the Rockies system," said Potter. "We're all super excited that he gets the chance to live his dream and we can't wait to watch him develop."

Butler will report to the Rockies rookie-level affiliate in Scottsdale, AZ, where he will begin his professional career.
