The Herkimer Generals baseball team traveled to Davenport, Florida for their yearly spring break trip. The Generals played 2022 World Series opponents Oakton and Northern Essex along with Waubonsee, Rockland and Bucks County.
The Generals were led by sophomore pitchers Corey Casteline (Johnson City, NY) and Troy Butler (Fort Plain, NY). Butler and Casteline combined for 4 wins on the trip. Butler finished the week with a 2.25 ERA over 12 innings while striking out 23. Casteline, pitched 4.2 innings while striking out 11 and holds a 1.93 ERA.
The General offense was led by sophomores Dakota Britt (Rockwall, Tx), Jovani Wiggs (Amsterdam, NY) and Swaroop Pujari (Yorktown, NY). Freshman, Tre Mariano (Cohoes, NY) and Kam Canavally (Schenectady, NY) provided instant offense for Herkimer.
Britt finished the trip hitting with .357 with 3 Home Runs and 11 runs scored. Wiggs scored 8 runs and added 3 home runs himself. Puljari paced the Generals hitting .500 on the trip with 3 doubles and 6 RBI's.
Mariano and Canavally had 7 RBI's a piece while anchoring the middle of the lineup. Mariano finished the week hitting .345 with a pair of Double and Home Runs while Canavally added a Double and a Home Run as well.
The Generals open Regional Play on Sunday (3/26) at Adirondack Community College. The double header is set for Noon and 2:30.
