Greg Farone Named Region III Male Athlete of the Year

HERKIMER, NY — Herkimer College sophomore pitcher Greg Farone was recently named the 2021-22 Region III Male Athlete of the Year.

Farone, who will pitch for the University of Louisville next season, was named NJCAA Division III Player of the Year, NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year, NJCAA Division III World Series MVP, and NJCAA Division III First Team All-American.

He finished the season with a 7-0 record and a 1.65 ERA. Additionally, he set the program record with 139 strikeouts across 60 innings pitched and became the first pitcher in program history to strike out every batter faced in a single game, registering 15 strikeouts in a five-inning game on April 24 vs. SUNY Adirondack.

"Greg had one of the most prolific seasons of any student-athlete in Herkimer College history," said head coach Lane Potter. "He was on a mission from the moment he stepped on campus, and it's nice to see him be recognized for all his hard work."


Farone is the ninth male athlete from Herkimer College to earn the distinction since 2000-01 and the first Herkimer athlete to achieve the honor since Derrick Felder in 2018-19.
