Bio

John Campagna took over as the head coach of the Herkimer College Cross Country and Track and Field teams in February, 2022.

Prior to his hiring as a coach for both programs, he was a head coach for the women’s basketball and cross country programs at Herkimer College and served as a head coach for several Central New York high school programs. 

Most recently, Campagna was named the 2023 Region III Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year. Additionally, nine different Herkimer athletes have earned All-American honors in his two seasons as head coach.

Campagna’s philosophy provides student-athletes with physical and mental training and enables his athletes to reach their personal goals. He is a positive advocate for athletes to “choose their path” and assists them with setting goals and attaining them. 

For over 30 years, Campagna’s full-time job at Herkimer College has been helping Herkimer student-athletes with any academic challenges they may encounter throughout the school year. He has helped navigate thousands of students to have academic success through tutoring, scheduling classes, and eligibility guidance. He works as a liaison between students and faculty, ensuring that Herkimer athletes maximize their success in the classroom.

Campagna is a lifelong resident of Herkimer, NY, where he resides with his daughter Madison and son Johnny.
