Lydia Reimer Named SUNY Scholar Athlete of the Year
Herkimer College sophomore Lydia Reimer has been named a 2024 Winter SUNY Scholar Athlete of the Year recipient.
The SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards recognize outstanding academic and athletic success in 29 different sports and are presented three times a year to coincide with the specific sports contested in the fall, winter and spring seasons. Reimer is one of only 21 out of more than 14,000 student-athletes at NCAA Division I and III, NJCAA, and USCAA SUNY schools to receive this honor.
Reimer, a West Canada Valley High School graduate, has participated in four intercollegiate sports at Herkimer – basketball, soccer, track and field, and tennis. Reimer has achieved high academic honors and is a candidate for an associate degree in Sports and Recreation Management this spring.
On the court, Reimer earned third-team Mountain Valley Conference honors. She had 14 games in double-digits and averaged 11.9 points this season. In addition to her successes on the court, Reimer is an NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer and Track & Field All-American.
"Lydia is an amazing athlete, but her true leadership is off the pitch and the court," said Herkimer College Women's Basketball Head Coach Matt Hazzard. "She holds herself accountable with a great work ethic and high standards. Her amazing performance in the classroom has proved this. The opportunity to have a student-athlete in your program that brings these qualities every day is unmatched."
Upon graduating from Herkimer, Reimer will continue her academic and athletic career at Russell Sage College
