She was a member of the 1978 regional championship volleyball team and the 1979 regional championship women's basketball team. Both teams were the first Herkimer teams to qualify and compete at the Nationals. Sharon was the Most Improved Player for volleyball and was named to the regional all-star volleyball team. Holding school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter, high jump, long jump, 400 meter relay, 4x200 meter relay and sprint medley relay, Sharon earned the title of HCCC Female Athlete of the Year in 1979. She was named Most Valuable Player and All-American for track, and was one of the College's first female athletes to receive a Division I scholarship. She attended The University of Rhode Island where she earned a B.S. in physical education and played volleyball and track, breaking several records including the high jump, long jump and 50 yard dash, some of which still stand in the top 10 today.
