Codi Gay, September Athlete of the Month

Herkimer NY – Herkimer College has announced its Green and Gold Athletes for the month of September.  They are men’s soccer player Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario) and women’s volleyball player Codi Gay (Herkimer, NY).

Blair, a freshman forward, leads the Generals in goals with 15 and has 5 assists on the season. He also has 6 game winning goals for Herkimer, currently undefeated at 13-0 and ranked # 1 in the Nation in the latest Division III NJCAA Men’s Soccer Poll. He scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime win against Cayuga on Sept 19. Coach Pepe Aragon states “Shemar is off to a fantastic start as a freshman. He has tremendous speed and is a true goal scorer.”

Gay, a sophomore libero, is first in Region III with 7.0 digs per set and second in the Region with 427 digs. She also has 7 kills and 15 aces on the year. “Codi is the back bone of the team and keeps us strong both physically and mentally. She also shows great strength emotionally as she is still grieving from the sudden death of her father in May.” States Coach Dianna Ste-Marie.
