Dana Nicoletti, May Athlete of the Month
Softball Pitcher Dana Nicoletti is the 2015 May Green & Gold Female Athlete of the Month
Freshman Dana Nicoletti was named Green & Gold Female Athlete of the Month in May. A Liberal Arts & Sciences: Generals Studies major at Herkimer College, Nicoletti helped the Herkimer Generals softball team finish in second place at nationals in 2015.
Nicoletti – who is from Syracuse, NY – had an impressive final month for the Generals, both on the mound and at the plate. On the mound the right hander went 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA, which was her lowest in any month of the season. In 32 innings pitched she only allowed 11 earned runs off of 28 hits, striking out 33 batters for an 7.22 average per game. Her best pitching performance came against Jefferson in a Region III Semifinal game. She threw a complete game shutout against the Cannoneers, allowing two hits with seven strike outs in five innings pitched for the 12-0 victory.
Offensively there was no drop off either for Nicoletti, hitting .580 with a .604 on-base percentage and .620 slugging percentage. Batting lead-off didn’t stop the freshman from driving in five runs for her team, scoring 21 runs on 29 hits in 14 games played in May. Her best game came against Onondaga, which helped Head Softball Coach win his 200th career game at Herkimer. Nicoletti went 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored and a run batted in. The Generals defeated the Lazers 15-5 in that game.
“I am very pleased to hear that Dana was recognized with the Green and Gold Athlete of the month,” said Head Softball Coach P.J. Anadio. “She works so hard for everything that she gets. Not only is she a great player for us, but her exemplary work in the classroom as well as the community puts her in an elite group of student-athletes here on our campus. She truly is a role-model for all aspiring college athletes and I can’t think of anyone more deserving. I am proud to be her coach!”
