Brittany Purcell, March Athlete of the Month
Freshman Brittany Purcell was named Green & Gold Female Athlete of the month in March. Purcell – a Criminal Justice & Law: Criminal Justice major at Herkimer College – helped the Generals to a 2-1 record.
Purcell - a native of McGraw, NY – set the tone early this season, saving a career-high 25 shots against Anne Ardunel. That momentum carried into games against Genesee and Niagara, combing for 16 saves and two wins at Wehrum Stadium.
In total for the month of March, Purcell saved 41 shots and only conceded 33 goals. It has helped the goalie ranked eighth in the nation currently in save percentage (51.4). That’s not her best national ranking however, amassing 75 saves thus far into the season which is second best in the nation.
“Brittany has really stepped up for us as a freshman,” said Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Dianna Ste-Marie. “Her quick improvement is a direct result of the time she puts in alone, outside of practice. Double digit saves in a game has become routine for Brittany, she solidifies our defense.”
