Carson Murphy, January Athlete of the Month
Sophomore Carson Murphy was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month in January. Murphy, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer College, helped the men’s basketball program to a 9-1 record, a #2 national ranking and the top spot in the Region III.
A native of Mohawk, NY, Murphy averaged a double double for the Generals, scoring 10.2 points and collecting 10.3 rebounds, just above his season averages. The guard scored his most points, 14, against Schenectady in the team’s largest victory of the season (110-67), then grabbed 17 rebounds against SUNY Adirondack at home (80-54) which started a nine-game winning streak against Mountain Valley Conference opponents, including a 15 point victory over then ranked #7 Mohawk Valley Community College where Murphy had 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.
“Carson has been a defensive leader for us,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Matt Lee. “His size and versatility has allowed us to become a better team on offense and defense as the month of January concluded. Carson led us to a 9-1 record, along with earning the #2 ranking in the nation!”
