Pete McAvoy, November Athlete of the Month
Men’s Soccer defender Peter McAvoy (Dundee, Scotland) was named Male Athlete of the Month in November. McAvoy earned his second consecutive NJCAA DIII National Championship after an impressive showing at Wehrum Stadium. McAvoy, who led his team with 15 goals this season, had the game-winning goal against SUNY Adirondack in the Quarterfinals, Richland College in the Semifinals and Suffolk College in the National Championship. It earned him Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors, adding to his Player of the Year, All-Conference Team, All-Region Team and All-American accolades gathered during the 18 games he played in for the Generals.
McAvoy’s offensive numbers might shine the brightest, but as the center back McAvoy helped the Generals to 13 shutouts this season. The defense allowed two goals in the National Tournament and five the entire season. Head Coach Pepe Aragon commented on McAvoy’s success by saying, “Pete played an amazing National Tournament. To have three game-winning goals in the tournament is unheard of, especially for a back. Not only did he score, but he led us on defense as well…He played a huge part in our back-to-back-to-back National Championships!”
