Jason Foden, March Athlete of the Month

Men’s Basketball player Jason Foden, Dolgeville, NY, was named Male Athlete of the Month in March. Foden, a Business: Sports and Recreation Management major at Herkimer College, doesn’t have the offensive numbers, but his ability to communicate and defend made him one of three captains on the 2013-2014 roster. The sophomore - who is a four-year veteran of the Air Force - did everything asked of him, typically guarding opponents’ best offensive player. He’s a tough and gritty athlete whose high energy was needed with more offensive minded teammates around him.

His presence was felt more than ever in the Region III Tournament, helping Herkimer collect their second consecutive title, defeating Clinton Community College 81-75. In that game, Foden was a part of an 18-2 run in the final three minutes of regulation, hitting a jumper from the baseline. Added to this, in their previous game against conference rival Mohawk Valley, Foden hit another jumper in the first half, giving his team their first lead over the Hawks in the first half, one which the team would not relinquish. In the national tournament, Foden’s shooting made one more stint, hitting his only three-point field goal of his NJCAA career (67 games played) against Lincoln College of New England. The Generals defeated the Wildcats 101-94.

Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach Henry Testa said, “In all the years that I’ve coached here, spanning eight years, no one has ever played harder than Jason. Additionally, his work in the classroom has been exceptional. We always welcome student-athletes like him at Herkimer College. Foden is the total package!”
