It helped him score runs in 10 consecutive games, accumulating an eight-game hit streak during that time as well. Additionally, 13 of his 33 hits were doubles, totaling 14 on the season which is 12th best in the nation. It also helped Phillips collect 14 RBIs - driving in two RBIs four times - all in consecutive games.
The NJCAA national player of the week in April also gets it done in the field. The short stop had a .990 fielding percentage, with 16 put outs, 38 assists and three errors. His Head Coach Jason Rathbun has appreciated Phillips reliability this season saying, “Tyler has come in as a freshman and provided reliable, consistent, play at the shortstop position, also holding the highest batting average on the team hitting in the top part of the order. We are so happy with his production, four-year schools already have scholarship offers for Tyler next year!"
