Herkimer Volleyball Goes 0-2 in Home POD

The Herkimer Generals faced tough competition in a volleyball POD against Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Jefferson Community College, ultimately falling in both matches.

Match 1: Fulton-Montgomery Community College 3, Herkimer College 0

In the first match of the day, Herkimer struggled to gain momentum as they were swept in straight sets by Fulton-Montgomery Community College (25-2, 25-10, 25-8). Fulton-Montgomery displayed a dominant offensive and defensive performance, leaving little room for the Generals to execute their game plan.

Herkimer's hitting percentage for the match was in the negative range across all three sets, reflecting the team's challenges on offense. Standout performances for the Generals included Deanna Heintz, who recorded 4 kills, and Madison Bernier, who contributed 14 digs, keeping the Generals defensively active.

The team registered a total of 25 attacks, but errors (21) weighed them down, leading to a hitting percentage of -.198 for the match. Despite their struggles, Herkimer players like Jadyn Ruff and Grace Durant fought hard, with Ruff recording 6 attacks and 2 kills, while Durant added 3 attacks.

Match 2: Jefferson Community College 3, Herkimer College 0

In the second match of the day, Herkimer again faced a tough opponent in Jefferson Community College, who defeated them in straight sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-14). The Generals were able to improve their offensive production slightly, particularly in the second set, but it was not enough to overcome Jefferson's strong all-around play.

Leading the offensive efforts was Alyssa Ojeda, who posted an impressive 5 kills with a .400 hitting percentage. She also led the team in digs, with 15, showing her versatility on both offense and defense. Deanna Heintz added 3 kills and 3 digs, while Jadyn Ruff recorded 4 kills and 3 digs. The team showed resilience and effort throughout, but Jefferson's superior play ultimately secured their win.
