Herkimer Volleyball Splits Matches in Region III POD

In a volleyball doubleheader on Saturday, the Herkimer College women's team experienced both triumph and defeat in their matches against Mohawk Valley Community College and Onondaga Community College.

Match 1: Herkimer College vs. Mohawk Valley Community College
The Generals started the day strong with a 3-0 sweep over MVCC. Herkimer took control from the first set, winning 25-15, and maintained their momentum through the second and third sets with scores of 25-9 and 25-11, respectively.

Offensively, Alyssa Ojeda led the way with 11 kills, hitting .400 for the match, while adding 3 digs and 3 service aces. Deanna Heintz contributed with 3 kills and 6 digs, while Jadyn Ruff was a force at the net with 9 kills and a .227 hitting percentage. Grace Durant added 3 kills and 14 service aces to power the team to victory. The Generals posted a solid .194 hitting percentage, with 26 kills and 12 errors on 72 total attempts.

Defensively, Herkimer's backline was anchored by Allison Ball, who tallied 5 digs. The win marked a solid team effort as Herkimer controlled all aspects of the game.

Match 2: Herkimer College vs. Onondaga Community College
In the second match of the day, the Generals faced a tougher challenge against Onondaga Community College, falling 3-0. Despite a hard-fought first set, which ended 26-24 in favor of Onondaga, Herkimer struggled to regain momentum and dropped the following sets 25-8 and 25-16.

Heintz again led Herkimer with 5 kills on 29 attempts, adding 5 digs, while Ojeda contributed 5 digs of her own. Ruff recorded 5 kills on 22 attempts, while Durant added 3 kills. 

After splitting the doubleheader, the Generals have a week off before heading to Batavia to take on Genesee CC and Jamestown CC in a Region III POD.
