Herkimer Volleyball Falls to Hudson Valley CC in Home-Opener

The Herkimer Generals faced off against Mountain Valley Conference rival Hudson Valley Community College on Tuesday. The Generals (1-2) fell 0-3 in straight sets.

Notable contributors for the Generals included freshman Alyssa Ojeda, who led the team with 9.0 points, accumulating five kills, two service aces, and five digs. Sophomore Jadyn Ruff also made a significant impact, contributing five kills, 1 service ace, and six points. Defensively, sophomore Deanna Heintz led the team with 11 digs, while sophomore Grace Durant added 9 digs and four points.

Hudson Valley Community College overpowered the Generals with 35 kills compared to Herkimer's 19. The Generals struggled with consistency on the attack, committing 26 hitting errors over 112 total attacks, resulting in a hitting percentage of -0.062. In contrast, Hudson Valley posted a solid 0.144 hitting percentage with only 21 errors from 97 attacks.

Herkimer's defense proved strong, out-digging Hudson Valley 55-24. However, errors on both serving (6 service errors) and receiving (4 receive errors) hampered their overall performance. At the net, the Generals managed 3 solo blocks, with freshman Amelia Sheldrick, Jadyn Ruff, and Alyssa Ojeda each contributing to the defensive effort.

The Generals look to bounce back in its next matches at the Mohawk Valley CC POD. Herkimer will play Onondaga CC and Mohawk Valley CC next Saturday.
