Kimora Brown Shines at Red Dragon Open; Qualifies for Two Events at Nationals

The Herkimer Generals Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed in their second outdoor meet of the season on Friday at the Cortland Red Dragon Open, hosted by SUNY Cortland. The meet featured stiff competition from numerous NCAA and NJCAA programs, but the Generals continued to build momentum early in their season with several strong performances.

Freshman Kimora Brown highlighted the day for the Generals, sprinting to a 9th-place finish in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 13.18 seconds. Brown also anchored the women's 4x100-meter relay team, which placed 6th in 54.94 seconds. She was joined in the relay by Haley Cornine, Siera Jacques, and Eleyna Rivas.

Rivas also contributed in individual events, competing in both the 100 meters (28th, 14.54) and the 800 meters, where she crossed the line in 3:03.49. Cornine showed her versatility, running the 200 meters in 31.05, a solid showing in her second collegiate meet.

On the men's side, freshman Tajuan Thomas clocked 11.85 in the 100 meters, finishing 32nd in a crowded and fast field. In the middle distances, sophomore Donnell Davis had a productive day with a 24th-place finish in the 800 meters (2:10.77) and a 15th-place result in the 1500 meters (4:28.77), showing endurance and consistency.

In the field events, freshman Cameron Voce tied for third in the men's pole vault, clearing 3.85 meters. It was Herkimer's top individual field placement of the meet and marked a strong progression from his season opener.

Sophomore Cameron Borges represented the Generals in both the shot put and discus. He threw 12.20 meters in the shot put, finishing 6th, and added a mark of 31.42 meters in the discus to place 22nd.

With early-season rust continuing to shake off, the Generals look ahead to the coming weeks with confidence. The team showed steady improvement from their opener and gained valuable experience against a large and competitive field. Herkimer will return to action next weekend at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invitational as they continue to gear up for Region III Championships later this spring.
