Women's Soccer Advances to North District A Final with Win Over Jefferson

The Herkimer College Generals secured a commanding 6-2 victory over the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers in the North District A Semifinal match Wednesday evening.

The Generals struck first just under four minutes into the game when Sarah Davis, assisted by Mia Lazzara, opened the scoring. Jefferson responded quickly, leveling the game at 1-1 with Samantha Stokely's goal, assisted by Emily Bombard, at the 5:09 mark.

Herkimer regained the lead in the 22nd minute when Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo netted an unassisted goal, making it 2-1. Lugo-Mateo continued her dominance, adding another goal just 10 minutes later, this time with an assist from Dakota Quick, pushing the score to 3-1. Before the half ended, Lugo-Mateo completed her fourth hat trick of the season with a third goal, assisted by Kadence York, extending Herkimer's lead to 4-1 at the halfway point.

Jefferson tried to close the gap early in the second half as Samantha Stokely scored her second goal of the match, with an assist from Ninette Fults at the 51:07 mark, bringing the score to 4-2. However, Herkimer quickly responded with Kadence York finding the back of the net at 56:18, assisted by Siera Jacques, making it 5-2.

Mia Lazzara sealed the victory for the Generals with a goal in the 86th minute, assisted by Paige Trevisani, bringing the final score to 6-2.

The Generals advance to the North District A Final vs. No. 1 seed Mohawk Valley CC on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Genesee CC. A time has yet to be determined.
