Herkimer Wins First Region III Game with 12-1 Win at Tompkins-Cortland CC

The Herkimer Generals women's soccer team secured a commanding 12-1 victory over Tompkins-Cortland Community College in a dominant performance that saw contributions from multiple players on both offense and defense.

The Generals struck first in the 7th minute with a goal from Kimora Brown, assisted by Ava Marcolin. They quickly doubled their lead when Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo found the back of the net in the 13th minute, thanks to an assist from Brown. The goals kept flowing as Haylie Buysse and Mia Lazzara added two more in the 14th and 15th minutes, with assists from Ava Williams and Buysse respectively. Lugo-Mateo scored again in the 18th minute with Sydney Schell providing the assist, giving Herkimer a 5-0 lead by halftime.

In the second half, Lugo-Mateo completed her hat trick in the 50th minute, once again assisted by Sydney Schell. Ava Williams extended the lead to 7-0 in the 56th minute with Schell adding her third assist of the game. Mia Lazzara netted her second goal of the match in the 65th minute, assisted by Ava Williams, before Julia Hight got on the score sheet in the 69th minute, assisted by Anderson Eggleston.

The Generals weren't done yet, with Paige Trevisani scoring in the 72nd minute off an assist from Julia Hight, making it 10-0. Julia Hight added her second goal of the game in the 77th minute, assisted by Sarah Davis, and Mia Lazzara rounded off the scoring spree for Herkimer with her third goal in the 78th minute, assisted by Haylie Buysse.

Tompkins-Cortland managed to score a consolation goal in the 84th minute through Cassie Doane, making the final score 12-1 in favor of Herkimer.

Herkimer dominated the match with 39 total shots, 12 of which were on target, while Tompkins Cortland only managed 4 shots with 1 on target. Cassidy Will and Abby Vadney combined in goal for Herkimer, with Will playing the first 70 minutes and making 3 saves, while Vadney played the final 20 minutes, conceding 1 goal and making 1 save.

The Generals continue their season with an eight game homestand beginning on Sunday with a match against Finger Lakes CC at 5:00 PM.
