Herkimer's Magical Run Ends in Region III Championship Game

History was made on Sunday as the Herkimer Generals Women's Basketball team competed in their first Region III Championship game in 28 years. The Generals fought hard but ultimately fell to the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers, 71-47, in a contest that showcased Herkimer's resilience and determination throughout the season.

The game opened with a strong offensive performance from Jefferson, who jumped to a commanding 22-8 lead in the first quarter. Despite Herkimer's defensive efforts, the Cannoneers continued their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, extending their lead to 45-18 by halftime.

The Generals responded with a resilient third quarter, outscoring Jefferson 20-11. Led by Kerisa Van Olst, who tallied a team-high 16 points, and Sage Geisler, who contributed 13 points and three steals, Herkimer battled to cut into the deficit. Kavashia Archie added eight points and six rebounds, while Imani McNeil anchored the team's defense with 11 rebounds.

Despite Herkimer's second-half push, Jefferson maintained control, closing out the game with a strong fourth quarter to secure the Region III title.

The Generals conclude their season with pride, having broken a 28-year drought and establishing themselves as a rising force in Region III women's basketball. The team awaits their fate to see if they will qualify for one of the four at-large bids to the NJCAA National Tournament next week.
