Women’s Basketball Advances to Region III Semifinal Behind McNeil Double-Double
The Herkimer Generals Women's Basketball team delivered a dominant performance Friday night, cruising past the Fulton-Montgomery Community College Raiders 69-42 in a well-rounded team effort. From the opening tip, the Generals controlled the pace, using stifling defense and efficient scoring to overwhelm their opponents.
First Half Dominance Sets the Tone
Herkimer came out firing, establishing a 19-6 lead in the first quarter behind stellar defensive play and aggressive rebounding. The Generals continued their suffocating defense in the second quarter, limiting the Raiders to just seven points while extending their advantage to 38-13 at halftime.
Leading the first-half charge was Imani McNeil, who dominated inside, finishing the night with a game-high 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 steals. Sage Geisler added offensive firepower with 13 points and 5 assists, while Kavashia Archie made her presence felt with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists, nearly securing a triple-double.
Herkimer Closes Strong
Despite a stronger third quarter from Fulton-Montgomery, the Generals maintained control, keeping their lead intact behind their depth and defensive intensity. The fourth quarter saw more of the same, with Herkimer closing the game on a 16-13 run to seal the victory.
Defensively, the Generals were relentless, forcing 25 turnovers and converting them into 29 points. Their defensive pressure also limited the Raiders to just 26.6% shooting from the field and a mere 12.5% from the free-throw line.
Balanced Team Effort
Herkimer's balanced attack saw contributions across the board. Kerisa Van Olst added 9 points, while Charity Dygert chipped in 6 points off the bench. The Generals also held their own on the glass, matching the Raiders with 47 rebounds.
