Women's Basketball Falls to Hudson Valley CC

The Herkimer College women's basketball team battled hard but came up just short in a 71-64 loss to Hudson Valley Community College on Tuesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex. Despite a strong second and third quarter push, the Generals were unable to hold off the Vikings' late surge.

Strong Middle Quarters Keep Herkimer in the Fight
The Generals fell behind early, trailing 20-11 after the first quarter. However, they responded with an impressive second quarter, outscoring Hudson Valley 22-13 to head into halftime tied at 33-33. The momentum continued into the third, where Herkimer outpaced the Vikings 18-14 to enter the final frame with a slim 51-47 lead. Hudson Valley turned the tide in the fourth quarter, using a 24-point surge to reclaim control of the game. Despite Herkimer's defensive efforts, the Vikings capitalized on key free throws and second-chance opportunities to seal the win.

Archie and McNeil Lead the Charge
Freshman guard Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY) led Herkimer's offensive attack, posting a game-high 20 points while adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Sophomore forward Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY) was a dominant presence in the paint, securing a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Sage Geisler (Queens, NY) chipped in 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers, while sophomore Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) contributed 11 points and 4 assists. The Generals' bench provided valuable minutes, highlighted by freshman Sarah Davis' (Norwich, NY) 5 points and 2 assists.

Turnovers and Late-Game Execution Prove Costly
While Herkimer showed resilience throughout, turnovers proved to be a key factor in the outcome. The Generals committed 36 turnovers compared to Hudson Valley's 31, allowing the Vikings to capitalize with 25 points off those miscues.
Herkimer also struggled from the free-throw line, converting just 16-of-27 attempts (59.3%), while Hudson Valley finished 17-of-28 (60.7%).

Looking Ahead
The Generals will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their push in regional play. Herkimer remains in the hunt for a strong playoff position and will aim to clean up execution in crunch time as they prepare for the final stretch of the season.
