
Herkimer Women's Basketball Overpowered By Jefferson CC
The Herkimer Generals Women's Basketball team put up a determined fight but ultimately fell short against Jefferson Community College, 81-56, in a home matchup on Saturday.
Despite a slow start in the first quarter, the Generals showed resilience throughout the game. Jefferson came out strong, establishing an early 25-10 lead in the opening period. Herkimer fought back in the second, outscoring Jefferson 19-18 in the final minutes of the half, but the visitors maintained control with a 48-29 advantage at the break.
McNeil Shines with a Double-Double
Sophomore forward Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY) led the Generals with an impressive 28-point, 14-rebound performance. She was dominant in the paint, shooting 13-for-27 from the field and adding a steal and a block to her stat line. Freshman Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY) also contributed with 18 points and 10 rebounds, securing a double-double of her own.
However, Herkimer struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just one three-pointer in 18 attempts (5.6%), and shot 39.1% from the free-throw line, missing crucial opportunities to close the gap.
Jefferson's Balanced Attack Seals the Win
Jefferson Community College displayed a well-rounded offense, with Delaney Wiley leading all scorers with 31 points, including five three-pointers. LaKaiya Butcher controlled the tempo, finishing with 12 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds. Jefferson dominated the glass, outrebounding Herkimer 54-39, which proved to be a decisive factor in the game.
