Women's Basketball Falls Short Behind McNeil's Double-Double

The Herkimer Generals Women's Basketball team put up a strong fight on the road against Fulton-Montgomery Community College but ultimately fell short, 67-62, in a competitive Region III matchup.

The Generals, got off to a slow start, trailing 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, but responded well in the second, outscoring FMCC 17-16 to keep the game within striking distance at halftime, 30-27. Behind a dominant performance from sophomore Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY), who recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Herkimer continued to battle, taking the third quarter 19-16. However, Fulton-Montgomery closed strong, using a 21-point fourth quarter to secure the win.

Key Performers:

      •     Imani McNeil led the way for the Generals with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals in 33 minutes of action.
      •     Kavashia Archie had a near double-double of her own, scoring 14 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.
      •     Sage Geisler was an offensive spark off the bench, knocking down five three-pointers en route to 19 points.
 
Despite a solid defensive effort that held FMCC to just 36.4% shooting from the field, the Generals struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 21.7% (5-of-23) of their three-point attempts. Turnovers also proved costly, as Herkimer committed 22 giveaways compared to FMCC's 15.
 
Fulton-Montgomery was led by Mianna Jackson, who poured in 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Quincy Lake added 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Generals will look to bounce back in their next contest as they return home to face Jefferson Communtiy College on Saturday, February 1st.
