
No. 14 Herkimer Women's Basketball Falls In First Game of 2025
The Herkimer College Generals battled fiercely in its first game of 2025, but came up short against the Lackawanna College Falcons, falling 76-58 in a physical matchup.
The Generals (-) struggled offensively in the first half, scoring only eight points in the opening quarter, but outscored the Falcons in the second quarter to trail by eight heading into halftime.
Freshman Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY) led the Generals with her sixth career double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Sage Geisler (Queens, NY) chipped in with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Lackawanna Falcons showcased a dominant presence in the paint, outrebounding the Generals 57-46. Desiree White led the way for the Falcons with an impressive double-double, recording 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Salote Franklin chipped in 13 rebounds to go along with her 9 points.
Herkimer showed resilience in the third quarter, outscoring Lackawanna 19-13 behind improved ball movement and defensive adjustments. However, Lackawanna's balanced offensive attack, with five players scoring in double figures, sealed the win for the visiting Falcons.
The Generals shot 35% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc, compared to Lackawanna's 33.3% overall shooting and 21.4% three-point accuracy. Herkimer struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 52% of their attempts, while Lackawanna capitalized on 58.3% of theirs.
The Generals look to bounce back in their next contest on January 14th against SUNY Sullivan.
