Women's Basketball Defeats Division II Monroe CC; Wins Sixth Straight Game
The Herkimer College women's basketball team pulled off an impressive 73-64 win over Division II Monroe Community College in front of their home crowd on Friday night. After falling behind 20-14 in the first quarter, the Generals turned up the intensity, outscoring Monroe in each of the final three quarters to secure the victory.
Freshman Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY) led the way for Herkimer with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Sophomore Sage Geisler (Queens, NY) added 14 points to go along with eight assists and five rebounds, keeping the offense steady and finding her teammates for crucial buckets. Off the bench, sophomore Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY) made a big impact, scoring 14 points and pulling down eight rebounds in 25 minutes.
Sophomore Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) and Anderson Eggleston (St. Johnsville, NY) each chipped in 10 points, with Van Olst knocking down two big three-pointers and Eggleston contributing 4 rebounds and 3 assists to round out a balanced offensive attack.
Herkimer shot an efficient 46% from the field and made 5-of-12 three-point attempts, while defensively forcing Monroe into 22 turnovers. Despite a standout effort from Monroe's Skylah Kemp, who finished with 20 points and 17 rebounds, the Generals' team effort proved to be too much for the visitors to handle.
The win moves Herkimer to 6-1 on the season. The Generals have a bit of a break over Thanksgiving before playing the SUNY Cobleskill JV team at home on December 4th.
