Herkimer College Names Coach Dan Stalteri Head Softball Coach
Herkimer College is proud to announce the hiring of Dan Stalteri, '85, as its new head softball coach. A familiar face with a proven track record, Stalteri returns to the Generals with a wealth of experience and a legacy of winning at every level he's coached.
Stalteri brings over a decade of coaching experience spanning high school, collegiate, and elite travel softball programs. He previously served as Associate Head Softball Coach at Herkimer College from 2012 to 2018, helping lead the program to a 2013 NJCAA Division III National Championship and earning National Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
"We're thrilled to welcome Coach Stalteri back to the Herkimer College community as our new head softball coach," said Herkimer College Dean of Students and Director of Athletics Don Dutcher. "He has a deep understanding of our program's tradition and values and brings a passion for development and competition that will elevate our student-athletes on and off the field. It's always special when someone knows what it means to put on and represent the Herkimer College athletic uniform. We're excited for what's ahead under Coach Stalteri's leadership."
At the high school level, Stalteri led varsity programs at both Herkimer High School (2011–19) and New Hartford High School (2020–25), guiding teams to six divisional titles, a 2022 Section III Class A Championship, and a Class A Regional Final appearance the same year. He was named All-Mohawk Valley Co-Coach of the Year in 2022
In the travel circuit, he coached the Utica Lady Comets' 16U and 18U teams (2020–23) and currently oversees player development across their 8U–16U teams. His commitment to developing players' skills and leadership has earned him recognition across Central New York.
Stalteri holds an associate's degree from Herkimer College (1985) and a bachelor's from Utica College of Syracuse University (1987). Off the field, he serves as Vice President of Hummel's Contract Furniture Division, a Town Councilman, and Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Herkimer. He runs Performance .420 CoachStalteri LLC as a private batting instructor.
Coach Stalteri's return to Herkimer College marks not just a reunion but a renewal of a tradition built on discipline, pride, and competitive excellence.
