The Herkimer Softball team dropped Game 1 of Thursday's scheduled doubleheader against Hudson Valley Community College, 24-7. Game 2 was canceled due to field conditions.
The Generals battled at the plate with nine hits. Sophomore Kimora Brown had a strong day, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Kyndra Sequin also collected two hits and an RBI. Emma Carlton helped her own cause with two hits and an RBI as well.
Herkimer trailed early after Hudson Valley scored four runs in the first inning. The Vikings continued their offensive surge, scoring in every inning, including eight runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth.
Carlton started in the circle for the Generals. She threw 3.1 innings before giving way to Aubrey Lewis. Hudson Valley totaled 24 hits and 22 RBI in the game.
Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo drove in a run for Herkimer in the fourth inning. Jessica Zalucki added a triple in the fifth and scored a run. Kerrigan Crysler also picked up an RBI.
The Generals have a quick turnaround, traveling to Corning for a doubleheader against the Red Barons on Saturday.
