Generals Split Opening Conference Doubleheader at SUNY Adirondack

Herkimer Softball kicked off conference play on Tuesday with a doubleheader split against SUNY Adirondack, taking game one in dominant fashion before dropping a close battle in game two.

Game 1: Herkimer 15, SUNY Adirondack 6 (5 innings)
The Generals' offense erupted in the opener, racking up 15 runs on 10 hits and taking advantage of eight walks. Herkimer plated runs in every inning, including a seven-run fifth that put the game away early.

Freshman catcher Alexis Broderick led the charge with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in four runs including a two-run double. Jazelle Rivera added a three-run homer—her first of her career—while pitcher Kerrigan Crysler helped herself with two RBI at the plate and tossed a complete-game five-inning win in the circle. She allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Game 2: SUNY Adirondack 9, Herkimer 7
In game two, Herkimer kept the bats going, collecting 12 hits, but couldn't overcome defensive miscues that led to five errors. The Generals built an early lead with a three-run third inning and added single runs in the sixth and seventh but couldn't contain Adirondack's mid-game rally.

Broderick once again stood out, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including a home run and a double. Aubrey Lewis added an RBI single, while Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo and Emma Carlton each had multi-hit games.

Lewis took the loss in relief, allowing four earned runs over 5.1 innings after Crysler pitched the first two frames.

With the split, Herkimer moves to 2-7 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
