The Herkimer Generals Softball Team kicked off its 2025 season with a doubleheader at the NMB Sports Complex, facing Madison College in the opener and Wake Technical Community College in the afternoon game. Despite battling hard at the plate, the Generals fell in both matchups, starting the season 0-2.
Game 1: Madison College 8, Herkimer College 0
Herkimer's season began with a tough loss to Madison College, as the Generals were held scoreless in an 8-0 defeat. The offense struggled to gain momentum, registering just three hits in the game. Kerrigan Crysler, Kimora Brown, and Jazelle Rivera each recorded a hit for the Generals.
Pitcher Aubrey Lewis took the loss, throwing 4.1 innings while allowing seven runs on eight hits. Madison College built an early lead, scoring in each of the first three innings before a four-run fifth sealed the game.
Game 2: Wake Technical Community College 19, Herkimer College 10
The Generals' offense came alive in the second game of the day, but it wasn't enough to overcome a powerful Wake Tech lineup in a 19-10 loss.
Herkimer tallied 11 hits, led by Alexis Broderick, who had a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Emma Carlton also contributed with a double, while Kerrigan Crysler, Kimora Brown, and Emma Carlton each drove in runs.
Despite the offensive explosion, Wake Tech took advantage of Herkimer's defensive miscues, scoring in every inning except one. Kerrigan Crysler (4.0 IP, 11 H, 11 R, 4 K) started in the circle for the Generals, while Emma Carlton (2.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R) came in for relief.
The Generals look to bounce back as they continue their early-season slate. They'll aim to build on their offensive output from game two while tightening up defensively in upcoming contests.
