Generals Softball Head to Nationals for 11th Straight Season

HERKIMER, NY -- The Herkimer Generals swept Onondaga Community College in the Region 3B District Final to advance to its 11th consecutive National Championship. 

Game 1:

In the first game of the two-game series, Onondaga took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Generals answered, scoring three runs in the inning. Two on an infield error and one on a sacrifice fly. 

Sophomore pitcher Madison Prior pitched four scoreless frames until the seventh inning when the Lazers scored two runs in the top of the seventh. She finished with a three-hit complete game.

With two strikes and two outs in the final inning before extras, freshman catcher Kelsey Richardson sent a double in the gap, scoring the winning run, and giving the Generals a series lead heading into the second game of the doubleheader.

Freshman infielder Olivia Friend continued her fantastic freshman campaign with two hits and improved her batting average to .553. Freshman infielder Naomi Cohen recorded two hits and scored a run.

Game 2:

The Generals scored five runs in the third inning to take control of the decisive Game 2 victory, winning 7-1. Freshman infielder Danielle Filapello led the way with three hits, two of which went for extra bases. 

Sophomore pitcher Jordan Cole threw five innings, allowing just one run. 

Herkimer advances to the NJCAA Division III National Championship in Dewitt, NY from May 24-27. The Generals await to hear their seeding and first round opponent on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. EST.
