Michael Green Wins Mountain Valley Conference Championship

On October 19, 2024, Herkimer County Community College hosted the Mountain Valley Conference Championship, where their men's and women's cross country teams competed fiercely.

Men's 8K Recap:

Herkimer's men's team had a strong showing, led by Michael Green, who claimed first place with an impressive time of 30:05.1, edging out his competitors by a narrow margin. Green's excellent pacing throughout the race set the tone for Herkimer's team. Donnell Davis followed closely behind, finishing third with a time of 30:31.6, securing another top-three position for the Generals.

John Campagna finished in 9th place with a time of 34:27.1, contributing significantly to Herkimer's team score. Additional performances came from Cameron Voce, who finished 15th at 39:30.4, and Bryan Doyle, who placed 18th at 41:43.2. Landon Davidson rounded out the team in 22nd place with a time of 57:20.4.

Despite these strong individual performances, Herkimer placed 3rd overall with a team score of 55 points, behind Hudson Valley and Mohawk Valley Community Colleges.

Women's 5K Recap:

In the women's race, Herkimer's efforts were led by Kearah Finlaw, who finished in 8th place with a time of 26:09.0, showing great resilience in a competitive field. Freshman Elenya Rivas finished 12th with a time of 30:33.0, contributing valuable points for the Generals. However, with only two competitors, Herkimer CCC's women's team did not have enough runners to qualify for the team competition.

The women's race was dominated by Mohawk Valley CC, which secured the team title with a commanding score of 15 points. Mohawk Valley's Katie Bauer took 2nd overall with a time of 22:18, helping her team sweep the top five spots.

Herkimer's cross country teams will look to build on these performances as they prepare for upcoming regional and national competitions. Both the men's and women's teams have shown great potential, with standout performances from Green and Finlaw, and they will aim to improve on these solid results in the postseason.
