Herkimer advances to National Semifinal with 5-1 win over Monroe College-Bronx

Herkimer, NY - The Herkimer Generals punched their ticket to the National Semifinals with a 5-1 win over Monroe College-Bronx in the 2020-2021 NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Quarterfinal at Wehrum Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The win lifts the Generals record for the Spring season to 6-1-1.
After a scoreless first half, Alex Charles (Christ Church, St. Kitts) scored the first goal of the game with 30 minutes left to give Herkimer a 1-0 lead. Ali Somow (Utica, NY) then scored 2 goals in 5 minutes to extend Herkimer's lead to 3-0 with 20 minutes left.
After a Monroe penalty kick cut the lead to 3-1, Heath Lucas (Chazy, NY) and Christ Valle (Highland Mills, NY) scored 2 minutes apart to give the Generals the 5-1 lead that would be the final. Manabu Takahashi (Osaka, Japan) made 3 saves to get the win in goal for Herkimer.
Next up for the #3 seeded Generals is a matchup with the #2 seed from Camden County College (NJ) on Thursday night at 6:30 PM in the second National Semifinal. The winner of that game will meet the winner of Thursday's first National Semifinal between #5 Mohawk Valley and #1 Richland (TX), on Saturday June 5th at 1:00 PM for the National Championship.
