Generals Men's Lacrosse Fall to Howard, Look to Rebound Tuesday vs. DuPage
The Herkimer Generals Men's Lacrosse team couldn't overcome a slow first half and dropped a 17-8 decision to Howard Community College on Friday afternoon at Wehrum Stadium.
The Generals endured a defensive battle in the first quarter, trailing 3-1, but were outscored 6-1 in the second quarter, trailing 9-2 heading into the break. Herkimer found more rhythm offensively in the second half, scoring six goals, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Chris Rose and Casey Ryan each scored twice to lead the Generals. Rose struck once in the second quarter and again early in the third, while Ryan found the net in both the third and fourth quarters. Eric Attleson had a strong all-around effort, tallying a goal and two assists—including key setups on back-to-back goals in the third.
Owen Pierce added a goal off an Attleson feed, and Lukas Quinn opened Herkimer's scoring in the first quarter with an unassisted effort. The Generals showed resilience in the second half, closing the gap slightly with three goals in both the third and fourth quarters.
Despite the final score, Herkimer had bright moments, particularly in ball movement and transition late in the game. Defensively, the group struggled to slow down Howard's balanced attack, which saw multiple players notch multi-goal efforts, including John Stubbs and Logan Foust.
With the loss, Herkimer will shift focus to next Tuesday's home matchup against the College of DuPage. Face-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Wehrum Stadium.
