Generals hold the lead over Tompkins Cortland

Cortland, NY-- The Generals took on Tompkins Cortland last Saturday and battled their way to a 12-11 win over the Panthers.  Herkimer found themselves in an early hole just two minutes in as the Panthers scored their first goal.  Herkimer rebounded tying it up half way through the first quarter from Sophomore midfielder #8 L.J. Redpath III (Rome, NY); his shot assisted by #3 Cavanaugh Rigby (Bexley, Ohio).  The Panthers answered back less than a minute later taking the lead 2-1, but the Generals' #5 Brian Gayle (Norwalk, CT) returned the punch just ten seconds later tying it up 2-2.  Freshman #11 Jon Wheeler (Marcy,NY) earned the Generals' first lead and Herkimer never looked back.  At the end of the first quarter Tompkins Cortland trailed 5-2.

Herkimer retained the three goal lead, 8-5 as the Generals' goalie #34 Charles Rosaschi (Highland Mills, NY) carried the ball the full length of the field and put one in the back of the net with just a few seconds remaining in the half.  The third proved to be slow for both teams as they each only netted one pushing the score to 9-6.  The fourth quarter stood as Tompkins Cortland's best 15 minutes as they were able to score five on the Generals.  Herkimer preserved enough insurance to maintain the lead until the end winning 12-11.  #1 Jake Williamson (Endicott, NY) came in clutch as he scored two of his three goals in the fourth quarter allowing Herkimer to hold off the Panthers until the end.
