Generals score season-high 22 goals against Hawks

(Jeramiah Robinson led Herkimer with five goals against Mohawk Valley on Saturday).

(Justin Flint got his second hat trick of the season on Saturday at Wehrum Stadium).

(Captain Jon Wilkins had a season-high four goals against the Hawks on Saturday).

HERKIMER, NY – Playing in their third home game of the season on Saturday (3/26) at Wehrum Stadium, the Herkimer Generals men's lacrosse team netted a season-high 22 goals against conference rival Mohawk Valley to defeat the Hawks in regulation 22-3.

Herkimer (3-2) never trailed in the game, briefly tying with the Hawks three minutes in until Cavanagh Rigby (Bexley, OH), Jeramiah Robinson (Johnstown, NY) and Ryan Fischer (Monroe, NY) helped the Generals net four unanswered goals in the final 11 minutes of the first to lead 5-1. Robinson and Rigby finished the game with five and four goals, both season-highs, while Fischer complied his second hat trick of the season. The sophomore also assisted on four goals in the game which was a season-high.

It got to a 10-goal lead (12-2) at half after Herkimer ripped off 10 unanswered goals before Preston Travis from Mohawk Valley could stop the General attack. Getting in the mix during the second quarter was James Redpath II (Rome, NY) and Justin Flint (Endicott, NY). Redpath finished the game with two goals and two assists, and Flint got his second hat trick of the season by the third quarter, also finishing with two assists.

The team netted their lowest amount of goals in the third (three), but made up for it in the fourth, scoring seven more to finish the game with eight unanswered. Four of the goals were assisted – one from Fischer, Robinson, Redpath III and Jon Wilkins (Norwalk, CT) – and the other four unassisted goals came from Wilkins, Ryan Zimmerman (Irondequoit, NY) and Rigby.

Splitting time in goal for Herkimer was Charles Rosaschi (Highland Mills, NY) and Kyle Brown (Oriskany, NY). Rosaschi got the start and earned his third win of the season after saving eight shots in 43 minutes. Brown relieved Rosaschi in the final 17 minutes of play and tallied one save.

The next two games for the Generals will be on the road after consecutive home games. On Wednesday (3/3) Herkimer will travel to play SUNY Delhi, a team which is now an NCAA opponent. The Broncos are 0-3 on the season, and will host the game at SUNY Oneonta if there's inclement weather in the forecast. Game time however is scheduled currently for 4 p.m. at SUNY Delhi.
