Robinson nets game-winner to defeat Bulldogs at home

(Jeramiah Robinson scores the game winning goal with 57 seconds left in regulation on Tuesday).

(Cavanagh Rigby ties the game at 10 all with 1:50 left in regulation on an assist from Justin Flint).

(Charles Rosaschi had a season-high 19 saves against the Bulldogs at Wehrum Stadium Tuesday).

HERKIMER, NY – Scoring five goals in the fourth quarter, all in the last eight minutes of regulation, the Herkimer Generals men's lacrosse team captured their first win of the season Tuesday (3/15) at Wehrum Stadium, defeating Dean College 11-10 in regulation.

Herkimer (1-1) came out on fire within the first 10 minutes of action, jumping out to a 4-0 lead with goals from Ryan Fischer (Monroe, NY), James Redpath III (Rome, NY) and Justin Flint (Endicott, NY).

The momentum earned started to dwindle shortly after the Bulldogs scored the last two goal of the first, then match Herkimer with another two in the second, going down 6-4 at halftime.

In the third and a little over one minute in the fourth, Dean scored five unanswered goals, erasing their early deficit in the process, now leading Herkimer 9-6 with 13:46 left in regulation.

A goal by Cavanagh Rigby (Bexley, OH) stopped the bleeding and ended Herkimer's 38 minute drought without a goal. It was Rigby's first goal of the season, assisted by Fischer from the back of the goalie net.

Then the manageable two-goal deficit (9-7) became three (10-7) after Kyle Pucci for Dean scored his only goal of the game with 9:40 left.

Down, but not out, Herkimer managed to get within one goal of the Bulldogs (10-9) after Jon Wilkins (Norwalk, CT) and Flint scored two minutes apart, Wilkins unassisted and Flint assisted by Fischer. The goal by Flint helped him to his third in the game at that point, joining Redpath III with hat tricks in the 60 minutes of play.

In the final two minutes of regulation, the Generals not only tied the game, but eventually took the lead with 57 seconds left after a shot on goal by Redpath III caromed to Jeramiah Robinson (Johnstown, NY), who outleaped Dean goalie Zachary Odell for the ball, then put away the game-winner in the back of the net for his first goal of the season and second in his career as a General.

The final 57 seconds saw Herkimer's defense take care of business for the win at home, seeing starting goalie Charles Roasachi (Highland Mills, NY) tally 19 saves in his second start.

Up next for the Generals is SUNY Broome. The Hornets are currently 1-0 after beating Tompkins Cortland at home 11-10 in overtime. They'll host Herkimer in their second home game of the regular season on Sunday (3/20). Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at East Middle School Alumni Stadium in Binghamton, NY.
