Generals capture first win against Spartans

(Kyle Lee scores one of his five goals against the Spartans Sunday at Utica College).

UTICA, NY – Led by Kyle Lee's five goals (Cincinnati, OH) Sunday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium, the Herkimer Generals defeated Mid-State Athletic Conference foe Cayuga Community College 10-6.

Herkimer (1-0) rode the hot hand of Lee, seeing him score the team's first three goals against the Spartans, all in the matter of 10 minutes. It gave the Generals a three goal lead for most of the half, allowing a late goal by the Spartans to make it 6-4 at intermission.

Helping Lee in the game was Tony Karam (New Hartford, NY), Joel Braun (Troy, NY) and Jonathan Camera (Staten Island, NY). Together the three players combined for five goals, with Karam and Braun both notching two goals and Camera scoring once.

With the offense doing their part, the Generals defense played a much better second half on defense, only allowing two goals. In the net was freshman Austin Loeffel (Red Hook, NY), saving 13 shot in 30 minutes. Mario Diaz (New Rochell, NY) played the other 30 minutes in the first half for Herkimer, compiling six saves.

The Generals next game is against Broome Community College. The Hornets will host the Generals on Saturday, March 22nd at 1 p.m. It will be the first of two consecutive away games for Herkimer.
