Men’s Basketball Advance to Region III Semifinals Behind McGhee’s 30 Point-Game

The Herkimer Generals Men's Basketball team finished with their first playoff victory of the year, pulling away from Hudson Valley Community College with an 84-75 victory on Friday.

The Generals (22-3) set the tone early, edging out a 32-28 lead at halftime, but it was their second-half performance that sealed the win. Behind an efficient offensive attack and stifling defense, Herkimer outscored the Vikings 52-47 after the break to secure their 22nd win of the season.

McGhee's Big Day Leads the Way
Sophomore guard Jayson McGhee was unstoppable, delivering a game-high 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including two three-pointers and a near-perfect 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. His ability to score at all levels helped Herkimer maintain control as Hudson Valley fought to stay in the game.

Dominance on the Boards
Forward Oladele Oladitan was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. His presence on the glass, along with strong contributions from Josiah Smith (8 rebounds) and Kenny Freeman (8 rebounds), gave the Generals a commanding 46-34 rebounding advantage.

Team Effort Secures the Win
The Generals' balanced attack saw key contributions from multiple players. Freeman added 12 points while Norris chipped in 10. Herkimer also capitalized on their trips to the free-throw line, hitting 21 of 26 attempts (80.8%), a critical factor in keeping Hudson Valley at bay.
