Oladitan, McGhee Register Double-Doubles in MVC Win

The No. 6 ranked Herkimer College men's basketball team battled to a hard-fought 54-46 victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College on the road Wednesday night, relying on dominant rebounding and defensive intensity to secure the win.

The Generals, now 14-3, jumped out to an early lead, taking a 32-26 advantage into halftime behind the inside presence of sophomore Oladele Oladitan (Staten Island, NY), who finished the game with a monster double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds. Despite struggling from the three-point line (2-of-22), Herkimer controlled the glass, out-rebounding Fulton-Montgomery 42-35, with sophomore Jayson McGhee (New Rochelle, NY) also pulling down 11 boards to go along with 13 points.

Herkimer's defense held the hosts to just 31.5% shooting from the field and an ice-cold 5.3% (1-for-19) from beyond the arc, stifling Fulton-Montgomery's offense. The Generals forced 14 turnovers and recorded nine steals, led by Oladitan and McGhee's combined six steals.

While Fulton-Montgomery fought back in the second half, Herkimer maintained composure, closing out the game with key free throws and timely defensive stops. Freshman Josiah Smith (Poughkeepsie, NY) added 9 points, while sophomore Nehemiah Yisrael (Brooklyn, NY) provided energy off the bench with 6 points and 6 rebounds.

The Generals will look to build on this victory as they return home for their next matchup against Jefferson CC on February 1st at 1:00 PM.
