No. 4 Herkimer College Men’s Basketball Falls Short in Thriller Against Monroe Community College

In a nail-biting Region III matchup, the Herkimer Generals mounted an incredible second-half comeback but fell just short, losing 68-65 to Monroe Community College.

The Generals, now 9-2 on the season, found themselves trailing 41-27 at halftime after struggling to contain Monroe's balanced offensive attack in the first half. However, Herkimer showed their resilience in the second half, outscoring Monroe 38-27 behind a ferocious defensive effort and improved offensive efficiency.

Sophomore Oladele Oladitan (Staten Island, NY) led the Generals with a monster double-double performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while adding 4 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. Freshman Kenny Freeman (Rochester, NY) added 15 points, six rebounds and four blocks, showcasing his versatility. Sophomore Jayson McGhee (New Rochelle, NY) chipped in 14 points.

Herkimer's defense stepped up in the second half, limiting Monroe to just 36.7% shooting from the field for the game. However, the Generals struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, shooting 20% from beyond the arc and just 64% from the free-throw line.

The Generals will look to bounce back on January 14th in another Division II matchup against SUNY Sullivan.
