McGhee’s Go-Ahead Layup Gives Generals Win over Vikings

Herkimer College pulled off a narrow victory over Hudson Valley Community College with a final score of 71-68. The Generals now improve their record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.


Key Performances: 

Oladele Oladitan led the way with a double-double, scoring 15 points and dominating the boards with 11 rebounds. He also contributed 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block, showcasing his all-around game.

Kenny Freeman matched Oladitan in scoring, also posting 15 points. Freeman was effective in drawing fouls, going 3-7 from the free-throw line, and he added 2 rebounds and a steal.

Jayson McGhee was instrumental off the bench, adding 10 points and 5 rebounds, hitting 4-6 free throws to help keep Herkimer in control.

Nehemiah Yisrael and AJ Burnett each chipped in 6 points, with Yisrael adding a rebound and Burnett contributing 2 rebounds and 2 blocks, helping the Generals protect the paint.

• Herkimer shot 40.3% from the field, with a challenging night from beyond the arc, hitting only 4 of their 21 three-point attempts (19.0%).

• The Generals dominated the free-throw line with 23 attempts, making 11 for a 47.8% conversion rate.

• Herkimer's defense and rebounding were key to the victory, with the team securing a total of 38 rebounds compared to Hudson Valley's 36. They also tallied 13 assists and 12 steals.


 

The game saw Herkimer trailing by 6 points at halftime (35-41), but they came out with intensity in the second half, outscoring Hudson Valley 38-27 to clinch the victory. This hard-fought win highlights the Generals' resilience and ability to execute under pressure, setting a positive tone as they look forward to upcoming matchups. The Generals head to Cayuga on Saturday and Finger Lakes on Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader.
