Generals Finish Semester 9-1 with Win over Columbia-Greene

The Herkimer men's basketball team finished the first semester strong with a dominant 101-58 win over Columbia-Greene Wednesday evening.

The Generals (9-1) jumped out to a 17-5 start in the first 6:17 of the game on 7-of-13 shooting. A consistent full-court press throughout the first half frustrated the Twins, as the Generals forced nine turnovers in the opening half.

Sophomore point guard Dante Griffin steered the ship, scoring 13 of his game-high 22 points in the first half.

A steady stream of scoring kept the game at an unsurmountable deficit for Columbia-Greene to overcome.

Herkimer has had at least five players reach double-figure point totals in its last two games. Griffin led both teams with 22 points, freshman Nick Boyce had 16, sophomore Nokio Kennedy had 15, sophomore Zyeir Lawrence had 14, and freshman Lamar Matthews added 12.

Boyce, who previously set his career-high in points last week against Onondaga Community College with 14, one-upped himself for a new career-high against Columbia-Greene.

Sophomore center Devon Haye was the only player in double figures for the Twins, scoring 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting.

The Generals will enjoy a few weeks off during the winter break before returning to play at Hudson Valley on Jan. 5, 2023, at 1 p.m.

GENERALS GAME NOTES

The team's 28 assists are the second-most in a game since 2018. It's the most in a game since Feb. 7, 2022, vs. Fulton-Montgomery when the team had 31 assists.

It's the first time Herkimer has scored 100-or-more points in a game since Nov. 23, 2019, against SUNY Broome.
